WOMEN LEADING LOCALLY NSW

Creating pathways to local leadership for multicultural women.

This landmark initiative will support multicultural women across New South Wales to strengthen their leadership skills, expand their networks, build confidence in civic participation and prepare to run for local government elections in 2028.

Why this program matters

Women remain underrepresented in local government across Australia, and the gap is even greater for women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

In many NSW communities with large multicultural populations, women make up a significant proportion of residents but remain vastly underrepresented in elected leadership. Women Leading Locally NSW has been designed to help address this imbalance by creating culturally safe, practical and supportive pathways into civic and political leadership.

What participants can expect

Women Leading Locally NSW will offer a structured leadership journey over 12 months, to up to 150 women, combining inspiration, skills development and election readiness.

Participants will have access to:

  • Information and inspiration sessions introducing local government leadership and election pathways

  • Leadership and candidate readiness training tailored to the experiences of multicultural women

  • Workshops on campaign planning, communication, community engagement and navigating political systems

  • Strong and supportive peer networks and opportunities including our thriving Alumni network and exclusive events

  • Access to exclusive and tailored content in our ground-breaking digital platform Campaign In Your Pocket (TM)

WFE has an inclusive definition of ‘women’. We aim to engage with, and give voice to, the diverse experience of those who may identify as women – including trans, cis and non-binary.
